Threes

Last three movies I saw:

1. Pirates of the Caribbean 3.
2. Shrek the Third
3. Spiderman 3
(how convenient; they are all 3rds)

Last three things that happened to my computer in the past month:

1. Video card blew
2. Power supply blew
3. Motherboard blew.

Three things I will miss when I go on my diet:

1. Ice cream
2. Hershey's hugs
3. Everything

Three gratitudes:

1. I am grateful for Steve's money management skills.
2. I am grateful to have the niece in my life.
3. I am grateful for the hibisci (isn't that the plural of hibiscus?) that Steve planted, which are now in bloom.

Summer Goals

It's been ages and ages since I've posted anything. A good month or so. I was busy the last month on wrapping up the semester. The semester ending went pretty well. I was pleasantly surprised by my students' final exams in the public speaking class. I was, however, disappointed in their final speeches. So I need to reverse engineer what I did to get them ready for their exam and apply it to their speeches. But I felt good with my final grades, despite the high number of F's and D's that I had to give out.

I have several goals for this summer (not in order of priority):

1. Clean out my home office so that the space is manageable and I can dust regularly. This includes unpacking boxes from my LSU office that have been in here for a year now. I intend to do this one corner at a time. One shelf or drawer at a time. Here and there, so that it doesn't become overwhelming. I intend to THROW THINGS OUT.

2. Revise my courses for BRCC along the lines of "significant learning" by L. Dee Fink. That entails, of course, finishing the book, which I have yet to do.

3. Add a couple more teaching pages to my Voxygen site regarding creating a classroom culture, listing activities that I use, etc.

4. Learn how to eat right and lose weight. I figure, I learned how not to drink, I learned how to manage my money, I learned how to be on time. I am no longer a flake. So perhaps I have enough structure in my life to learn how to eat right and go on a diet that will actually work. We'll see how this turns out, of course.

5. Clean up the clutter spots in my house.

These are all ambitious goals, but I'm not really doing anything this summer besides gaming, so I should have plenty of time to accomplish my goals, or at least make strong headway on them.

From Code Pink

From Code Pink's talking points about dogging Hillary re: the war in Iraq:

Question: Are you doing this because she's a woman? Are you holding her to a higher standard because she's a woman? As women, are you going after her because she's a woman?

Answer: No. No. No. Our campaign has nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman. It is about her enormous power and influence within the Democratic Party. It is about her hawk-like record. We don't want to end up with another Lyndon Johnson—of whatever gender. Pressuring Hillary to change her stance on the war—and not just her RHETORIC ON THE WAR, but her ACTIONS—is our best hope to have an influence on the policies that will decide how and when that war is ended.
I never really thought of her as another Lyndon Johnson, but....that's really scary.
